The Skirt Revolution

Dear readers, I ask thee hearken back to a time, back in yesteryear, a time long, long ago that I like to call high school. Many of you have been there. Some of you are there now. Like me, most of you reading this were there at a time when skirts and dresses were not the height of fashion. Sure, there was a time when skirts and dresses were the uniforms of women everywhere, but the 90's and early 2000's were not friendly to those of the skirt- and dress-wearing persuasion. It was a tough time for us all [bows head in solemnity].

Fast forward to a much more stable time in my life (and by that, I mean I finally know my beauty complexion number in every drugstore foundation brand) and dresses and skirts are not only en vogue, they are basically the preferred clothing article of choice when it comes to exuding true fashion. Sure, jeans and a t-shirt are great, but if your goal is to make a statement with your outfit, you do so in a skirt or a dress. Fine, maybe a jumpsuit, and only if you are Victoria Beckham, but for the most part, you're going to show up somewhere nice in a dress or a nice skirt and top. Fact.

In honor of the great progress we have made in the last ten  years-- and by that I mean that now "skirts" is its own category on most websites as opposed to just being filed under 'bottoms', or lumped together with dresses-- I bring you a list of skirts that are so beyond beautiful and wearable that you will instantly forget the days where a gap denim skirt was the only suitable skirt you could wear. Click the link above each picture to be directed to each skirt's ordering page.

#SAGAwards2015: Best and Worst Dressed

Surprisingly the fashion this year was on point, but it was also pretty safe. There were very few WOW moments, but that's not to say that the women of the night looked bad. Most were gorgeous, a few stood out and a few others fell short. It was kind of a breeze to choose this year's best and worst dressed, and all things considered, these are not the 'best' best-dressed stars I've ever seen, or the 'worst' worst-dressed stars I have ever seen. In no particular order, here is my SAG Awards best and worst dressed list.

~~~~~BEST~~~~~
JOANNE FROGGAT
It's simple, it's sweet, it's got an edge, and she looks positively breathtaking in hair and makeup. Overall, Anna Bates takes her downstairs look to a totally upstairs level.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
Talk about a complete 180. Keira decided to not come to the awards dressed like a prairie girl and instead decided to make jaws drop in this purple lace Erdem gown. No one has ever pulled off purple quite like this.
JULIANNE MOORE
Peanut butter and jelly. Moth and flame. White and Rice. Rocky and Bullwinkle. These are all things that belong together, much like Julianne Moore and this emerald gown. Take note gingers, this is the most flattering color you can ever wear. Do it often.
FELICITY JONES
Like Keira above, this former worst dressed star decided to show in something that didn't look like the Atlantic Ocean. This soft and delicate, feminine dress still comes off as strong and fierce. Sidenote: I tend to get Felicity confused with Emilia Clarke, who basically showed up in this dress in a dark color. Anyone else notice this?
~~~~~WORST~~~~~

TARYN MANNING

Pass me a tissue. I just shed a tear, that's how sad this dress is. How did Taryn manage to make this normally beautiful color turn into a scene from Schindler's list?

LORELAI LINKLATER

Why didn't anyone tell me the Salem Witch Trials were back?? I feel like that's news you share with people when they show up in a Puritan's dress from the 1600's. Things not to wear to an awards show-- something you would get burned at the stake in.

LAURA PARVER

Who is this? Does anyone know who this is? Does anyone know who still makes sleeves with that cuff? Can someone please explain why this is happening right now? I have a headache.

#SAGAwards2015: Shades of Midnight

The dark side has never looked this good. In the same way that red gowns ruled the Globes, it was the ladies who donned the darker hues that made up the majority of the gang. These are the ladies who played with volume, texture and silhouette; from Emma Stone's mullet dress (business on top, party on the bottom) to Joanne Froggat's look of perfection (and Mayim Bialik's modest version on the look), these women ruled the carpet. Just not Lorelai Linklater. Definitely not her.

#SAGAwards2015: Light the Way

And God said, Let there be light! These ladies are clearly into the divinity, as they not only embraced the light, but they basically shine and glow and glimmer like the angels that they are.  Insert Hands Raised to God Emoji here! As with Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones stepped up her game in the Got-Her-Shit-Together department and she looks incredible. I have serious girl crushes on Gretchen Mol, Julie Bowen, and Reese Witherspoon.
